'Little Mermaid' actress Halle Bailey, partner DDG call it quits

“Little Mermaid” star Halle Bailey and her partner rapper Darryl Dwayne “DDG” Grandberry Jr. have decided to go their separate ways, almost a year after welcoming their first child.

Grandberry announced their separation on his personal Instagram account on Friday, Oct. 4, saying the decision to split up was not “easy” but the best option for both of them.

“Dear friends and supporters, after much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways,” he wrote. This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we’ve shared.”

The rapper affirmed that their love for each other remains as they navigate co-parenting their son, Halo.

“Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other. As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we’ve built and the beautiful moments we’ve shared. As we navigate this transition, we ask for your understanding and support,” he stated.

In December 2023, the pair announced the birth of their first child after keeping their pregnancy a secret from the public.

DDG and Bailey were first linked in January 2022 after they were spotted at an Usher concert together. Two months later, they officially confirmed their relationship on social media when the rapper penned a birthday message for the “Color Purple” actress.

In June 2022, the duo made their red carpet debut at the BET Awards. In an interview with Essence in August, Bailey shared how she and DDG met.

“I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them. He was one of them. I completely forgot about him. But then I saw that he was dropping music, and I really gravitated toward this one song. Coincidentally, he messaged me—and the rest is history,” she shared at the time.
