Coritha honored by OPM singers Freddie Aguilar, Cooky Chua, Bayang Barrios
Freddie Aguilar, Cooky Chua and Bayang Barrios were among those who mourned and paid tribute to Coritha, honoring the late folk singer’s contribution to OPM.
Coritha, known for her hit songs “Oras Na,” “Lolo Jose” and “Sierra Madre,” died on Friday, Sept. 27, as confirmed by her partner Chito Santos through broadcaster Julius Babao.
Right after the sad news was made public, tributes and condolences for the late singer and her family poured on social media, particularly on Facebook.
“Pumanaw na ho si Coritha mga kababayan. Taos puso akong nakikiramay sa kanyang mga naiwan. May she rest in peace,” Aguilar said.
“Paalam, Ma’am Coritha. Salamat sa musika,” Chua wrote.

Jim Paredes also bid farewell to Coritha, saying, “See you in OPM heaven.”
Musician Jesse Bartolome also extended condolences to the late singer’s family and announced that he, along with few other friends, will hold a tribute concert for her.
“We sympathize and condole with the family, friends, and fans of Ma’am Coritha,” Bartolome said. “Above all to her partner whose love for her is greater than his life. We have witnessed their life and love for each other.”
“This coming Oct. 12, I and some of my friends will do a tribute concert for the legendary Pinoy Folk Icon because of our love for her. Beneficiary of the proceeds will be sent to her partner in life Mr. Chito Santos,” he shared.
Coritha passed away after a long illness. She had been bedridden and unable to speak due to stroke.
Santos’ sister, who is a doctor and who also looked after Coritha, said they will hold a one-day viewing for the singer, details of which have yet to be announced as of this writing.
