Robert Pattinson brought his A-game to “Mickey 17,” the much anticipated new film of Bong Joon Ho, the director of the 2019 hit movie “Parasite.”

The first trailer of “Mickey 17” debuted on Tuesday on YouTube and saw Pattinson playing multiple versions of the same character, the eponymous Mickey who keeps experiencing different kinds of death and rebirth as an expendable clone. Mickey Barnes is a space colonist who finds himself in a peculiar circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to die for a living.

The two-minute trailer shows Pattinson’s character getting his arm chopped off, being thrown into a tunnel of fire, and being crushed by alien species, only for him to return with most of his memories still in tact.

In the comments section, fans have expressed their excitement and admiration for Pattinson’s talent in bringing another cinematic character to life.

“Mickey 17” will mark Bong’s return to the big screen after winning an Oscar for Best Director for “Parasite,” while the movie will be Pattinson’s comeback film since his stint as Batman.

In April, the “Twilight” actor made a surprise appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas to talk about his upcoming film.

“I’ve been the biggest fan of Bong for many, many years; he’s my hero,” Pattinson said at the event, per Entertainment Weekly. “Mickey 17 is someone who has the lowest expectations of his life, and yet the world keeps pushing those expectations, to the point where he has a job that tortures him every day.”

“And then 18 comes along, and he’s got frontal lobe damage and no self-control, libido out of control. It’s like playing an evil brother or twin,” added the actor.

Aside from Pattinson, the science fiction film will also feature Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo, among others.

“Mickey 17” premieres in Philippine cinemas in January 2025.
