“Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” is set to dive into the emotional and powerful life story of the late actor who was injured in a horse-riding accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

The documentary film’s trailer was dropped on Monday, Aug. 26, and featured the before and after events in Reeves’ life. The actor found fame for playing Superman in the late 1970s and 1980s until his death in 2004 due to heart failure and enduring his disability for years.

From the directors of “McQueen,” Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, the film originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will be shown in cinemas for the first time as it aims “to deliver a moving and vivid cinematic telling of Reeve’s inspiring life story.”

“What is a hero? My answer was that a hero is someone who commits a courageous action without considering the consequences,” Reeve is heard saying in the trailer. “Now my definition is completely different. I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”

“Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” opens in Philippine cinemas on October 16.
