Korina Sanchez has reached out to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) cybercrime unit to report an individual pretending to be her and asking for supposed donations for typhoon victims.
The veteran broadcaster shared a notice to the public through her Instagram page on Friday, Aug. 16.
“Someone has been texting people I know, asking for telephone numbers of other people I know. A QR code is being sent supposedly to donate to Typhoon victims,” Sanchez said.
“THIS IS NOT ME. Do not respond. Do not give,” she advised her friends and followers. “They’re now being reported to the NBI Cybercrime Unit.”

Netizens lamented how such modus has been prevalent now, while some of Sanchez’s friends disclosed that they almost fell victim to the individual pretending to be the broadcaster.
Prior to Sanchez, several showbiz personalities also warned against scammers who introduced themselves as celebrities to collect “donations” for the victims of the recent typhoon Carina. Among them were Max Collins, Roberta Tamondong, Jolina Magdangal and Antoinette Taus.
Aside from these cases, there are also scammers who use artificial intelligence (AI) to replicate celebrities’ voice to sell products. Actor Marvin Agustin was one of those whose voices were replicated by scammers.
