Leonardo “Remy” Monteverde, husband of Regal Entertainment founder Lily Monteverdo, has died at the age of 86, his family confirmed.

Lily, fondly known in the Philippine movie industry as Mother Lily, confirmed Remy’s passing through an obituary card shared via her Instagram page on Tuesday, July 30.

Remy, a former basketball player, passed away on Monday, July 29. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Director Erik Matti and Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairperson Joey Reyes were among those who paid tribute to Remy through their respective Facebook pages.

“To the Monteverde family—Lily Monteverde Meme, (children) Roselle Monteverde, Dondon Monteverde and Goldwyn, our deepest sympathies for the passing of Father Remy Monteverde,” Matti wrote. “His legacy and contribution to Philippine cinema through Regal Films will always be remembered and recognized.”

Matti further credited Remy for having “championed Filipino Action movies and defined it for so many decades with such icons Lito Lapid and Ace Vergel headlining the marquee.”

“Rest in peace, Father,” Matti concluded.

Reyes, for his part, recalled how Remy had always been a “Father” to those who grew with them in Regal Entertainment.

“He has always been the strong silent figure beside the gregarious Mother Lily. Now he has gone home to the waiting arms of our Big Father. And he will be missed as much as he was and will always be loved,” Reyes said. “Rest in eternal peace, Father Remy Monteverde.”

Other celebrities who extended their condolences were Laurice Guillen, Joel Lamangan, Ricky Davao and Aster Amoyo, among others.
