Xian Lim revealed he was not the one who initiated the breakup with Kim Chiu, stressing that amid the hate thrown at him, he is “proud” that his record is “clean.”
The actor spoke about their separation anew after he was asked about his friendship with the actress-TV host, during an interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Wednesday, June 12.
Lim was interviewed alongside his “Playtime” co-star Sanya Lopez.
“Are you and Kim friends?” Abunda asked, to which the actor replied, “Of course, of course. Nagulat ako sa tanong.”
“To be completely honest, ever since we went our separate ways, hindi pa po kami nakakapag-usap. But of course, when that night happened, maayos ‘yung pag-uusap namin,” he clarified. “Merong iyakan but there was that assurance that we are—we went through 12 years, ‘di ba? Twelve years of our existence. So it has that respect.”
Lim then stressed that he understands the “anger” and frustration of fans, but he lamented the “lies” and made-up stories that arose from their separation.
“[We] released our statement na we both decided to part ways, but to be completely honest I wasn’t the one who engaged in the separation,” he disclosed. “‘Yun lang po siya. It’s that simple.”
Drawing a clarification from Lim’s statement, Abunda asked, “Hindi ikaw ang nag-initiate?”
“Yes, there you go. I wasn’t the one who initiated the breakup,” the actor affirmed, although he seemingly stuttered when asked if the breakup would not have happened if he “had it [his] way.”
“I wouldn’t really… You know, that’s hard… It’s such a delicate… But, I understand why the supporters are angry. I understand why they feel betrayed pero masakit din ‘yon para sa amin,” he said.
“They’re watching it from a distance; ito kaming dalawa, and we have our talks,” he continued. “Hindi na kailangan pang himayin kung sino ang nagkulang. I think the length of it speaks for itself.”
Addressing the hate aimed at him, he added, “‘Yung mga pambabatikos sa akin ng karamihan, I think they should just look at it from a lens na for more than a decade, I never had any—my record is clean and I’m proud of that. You’re not gonna see me in places you’re not supposed to see me, you know.”
The actor—who earlier confirmed dating film producer Iris Lee—further clarified that he is not publicly speaking about these things for clout, and that he was just saddened over the “intrigues” against him.
“It’s just a very delicate thing and I do understand why people are upset, but we are okay,” he reiterated.
