Jun Ji-hyun, Kang Dong-won to join forces in new K-drama ‘Tempest’

South Korean superstars Jun Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won are confirmed to star in the upcoming political thriller “Tempest,” which is set to be released sometime in 2025.

Jun and Kang are cast as a career diplomat and international special agent in the political series, per a press statement from a Korean streaming platform.

The Korean series tells the story of a determined career diplomat Seo Mun-ju (Jun Ji-hyun) who is gunning to uncover the truth behind an attack that threatens the Korean peninsula. She then meets international special agent Sanho (Kang Dong-won) who is hiding secrets of his own.

“Tempest” is directed by Kim Hee-won and Heo Myung-haeng, while the script will be brought to life by Chung Seo-kyung. Kim is best known for his work for “Queen of Tears” and “Vincenzo.”

According to the statement, Kang is listed as one of the series’ executive producers.

Details about the actors’ cast mates, complete storyline, and premiere date are yet to be announced.

Jun and Kang established themselves as megastars in South Korea in their own rights, appearing in popular K-dramas and films throughout their careers.

Jun, also known as Gianna Jun, is best known for her lead roles in “My Love from the Star,” “The Legend of the Blue Sea,” and “Jirisan,” as well as the films “Il Mare,” “My Sassy Girl,” and “Assassination.”

Meanwhile, Kang made a name for himself as a film actor. He starred as the lead in the movies “M,” “The Priests,” “Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned,” and “Peninsula,” to name a few.
