Piolo Pascual confessed that he was drunk in his acceptance speech for Best Actor at the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS) awards although he managed to make it through his speech.
A laughing Pascual revealed this upon accepting his Best Actor trophy for his performance in the film “Mallari” at the star-studded event last Sunday, May 25, as seen in a video recorded by one @trixie_dauz on X (formerly Twitter).
“Napakabigat,” he began while referring to his trophy. “Maraming, maraming salamat po sa FAMAS. Unang-una, nais kong pasalamatan ang Panginoong Diyos sa karangalang ito because kung wala po ang Panginoong Diyos, wala po ako dito.”
“And of course, my parents — Mommy Vi, Dad Bo,” he said, referring to his onscreen “parents,” Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon, who starred with him in the film “Dekada ’70.” “They are my parents, they reared me in this business.”
(The trophy is so heavy! Thank you very much to FAMAS. First of all, I want to thank the Lord for this award because if He wasn’t here, I wouldn’t be here either. And of course, my parents, Mommy Vi, and Dad Bo, they are my parents, they reared me in this business.)

The actor then said he wanted to thank more people before admitting that he “drank a lot” at the event. However, he managed to thank the production team behind the film including director Derrick Cabrido and Mentorque Productions owner Bryan Diamante.
“Marami po akong papasalamatan pero marami na rin po ako nainom tonight,” he said while laughing. Pascual then asked Diamante to go onstage while crediting the staff behind “Mallari.”
“Sabi niya sa’kin I just want to make the best film of the year. And we won Best Picture. Gusto ko magpasalamat sa lahat ng bumubuo ng pelikulang ‘to. Marami pa akong gustong pasalamatan.”

A laughing Santos — who was standing at the side of the stage with de Leon — teased the drunk Pascual, saying, “Lasing ka na, anak. Lasing ka na, anak. Go ahead, anak. Go!”
The actor said in response: “Pwede ba ako mag-shades (Can I wear shades), Mom?”

Pascual eventually managed to pull himself together, as he praised the hard work of his co-actors and staff in the film. “Gusto kong magpasalamat sa bumubuo ng ‘Mallari.’ Sa direktor ko, si Direk Derrick [Cabrido], sa [producer] ko, sa camera. Lahat po ng bumubuo ng ‘Mallari.’”
“Pinaghirapan po namin ‘yung pelikulang ito at lahat po ng artista, pinaghirapan po nila ‘yung trabaho nila,” he continued. “So, maraming maraming salamat po. Hindi ko po ipagkakait sa sarili ko kasi para sa pelikulang Pilipino ito. Maraming salamat. God bless you.”
(I want to thank the people who made “Mallari” possible — director Derrick Cabrido, the producer, and the camera men. To everyone behind the film. We all worked hard on this film. And to my co-actors, they worked so hard. So thank you very much. I will never stop myself from doing this because this is for Philippine cinema. Thank you very much. God bless you.)
Pascual was tied with Alfred Vargas for Best Actor in the 72nd edition of the award ceremony.
Meanwhile, Kathryn Bernardo won Best Actress for her performance in the film “A Very Good Girl.”
