Kathryn Bernardo was the brightest star at the 72nd Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) awards where she bagged Best Actress for her performance in the film “A Very Good Girl” and mingled with her celebrity friends.

The FAMAS 2024 Awards, held at the Manila Hotel on May 26, was a celebration of the film industry by honoring the stars, filmmakers, and everyone behind the biggest films under its nomination pool.

Among the highlights of the night was Bernardo recalling how she accepted the role of Philomena Angeles in the film because of how she believed in its story in her acceptance speech.

“This is my first [FAMAS award]. Thank you so much po FAMAS. Noong napabilang ako sa ‘A Very Good Girl,’ hindi naman ako nage-expect mapabilang sa awards or nominations. Tinanggap ko ang proyekto dahil naniniwala ako sa materyal. Nagtiwala ako sa mga kasama ko. Umaapaw ang saya ko kasi nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na gumawa ng ganitong klaseng pelikula at minahal at sinuportahan sya ng mga tao,” she said.

(This is my first FAMAS award. Thank you so much. When I was cast in “A Very Good Girl,” I didn’t expect to receive awards or nominations. I accepted the project because I believed in the material. I believed in the people working with me. I’m very happy because I was allowed to be part of this kind of film.)

“This movie is a product of hard work, love and passion… Gusto ko din i-share ang award na ito sa lahat ng bumubuo ng ‘A Very Good Girl Family’; my Star Cinema family; my co-actor Miss Dolly de Leon; our director, Petersen Vargas; at sa lahat ng mga sumusuporta, maraming salamat. Your Very Good Girl is a very happy girl tonight,” she further said.

Aside from Bernardo, other winners were Piolo Pascual (“Mallari”) and Alfred Vargas (“Pieta”) for Best Actor; Gloria Diaz (“Mallari”) for Best Supporting Actress; L.A. Santos (“In His Mother’s Eyes”) for Best Supporting Actor; Euwenn Mikaell (“Firefly”) for Best Child Actor; and, Elia Ilano (“Ghost Tales”) for Best Child Actress.

Celebrity mix

Meanwhile, Dingdong Dantes, who was one of the nominees for Best Actor, took to his Instagram Stories to share photos of him interacting with his fellow celebrities on the sidelines of the event.

KathDen moments

KathDen fans were also treated to subtle moments between Bernardo and Richards, where the actor appeared to reassure his “Hello, Love, Again” leading lady at some point in the event.

‘Alay sa kasaysayan’

Meanwhile, FAMAS 2024 Best Actor nominee Cedrick Juan took to his Instagram page to express his love for his “GomBurZa” family, as he pointed out that being recognized for their work is worth celebrating already.

“Sa pamilya @gomburzafilm, pinangarap lang natin noon na mapanood tayo ng bawat Pilipino. Ang mga karangalan at mga parangal ay nagsisilbing indikasyon kung gaano natin ibinuhos ang ating puso at kaluluwa para sa pagkilala sa tatlong paring martir. Alay sa ating kasaysayan at mga Pilipino noon, ngayon at sa mga susunod pa na mga henerasyon,” he wrote.

(To my “GomBurZa” family, we dreamt of being watched by all Filipinos. The honors and awards are a sign of how we poured our hearts and souls into bringing justice to the three martyred priests. We dedicated this film to our country’s history and the generation of Filipinos.)
