Even Michelle Dee could not help but poke fun at her “sabaw” moment as she was crowning Chelsea Anne Manalo of Bulacan as the new Miss Universe Philippines queen when she mindlessly plopped the crown on her successor’s head during coronation night.

“Sabaw,” or soup in Tagalog, is a colloquial term that refers to a person’s temporary lapse in judgment, or when a brain is not functioning well due to a mental meltdown.

The funny moment was caught on video as it was being streamed live, and then made its way to social media via memes where Dee could be seen visibly embarrassed at her gaffe. She eventually set things right by looping the crown over Manalo’s bun so that it sat at an angle over her head.

The actress-beauty queen shared screenshots on her X account, one where the crown was precariously sitting atop Manalo’s head, while another showed it on the upright position.

In her caption, the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 titleholder wrote, “My mind is still here [laughing emojis]. MICHELLE DEE ANO BA.”

Dee initially shared the screenshot of her adjusting Manalo’s crown and said, “At least I fixed it [relieved emojis].”

The candid moment between the two queens received numerous reactions from netizens, with most pitching in with the fun.

“Congratulations, Miss Bulacan! Galing mong mag-balance teh,” wrote one netizen.

“Ginawang paso ni Michelle Dee [crying emoji]. Congrats, Miss Bulacan,” said another X user.

After seven years of a memorable journey as a beauty queen, Dee bid farewell to pageantry. She took her final walk as MUPH 2023 wearing her iconic black Mark Bumgarner evening gown inspired by the Filipino mambabatok, Apo Whang Od.

The 29-year-old beauty queen calls her reign a “transformational” and a “collective success,” made possible by her loved ones, fans, and fellow Filipinos who supported her through it all.

Meanwhile, aside from Manalo taking home the Miss Universe PH 2024 crown, Tarah Valencia of Baguio was named Miss Supranational Philippines, Cyrille Payumo of Pampanga was proclaimed Miss Charm Philippines. Alexie Mae Brooks from Iloilo City received the title of Miss Eco International Philippines, and pageant veteran Ma. Ahtisa Manalo of Quezon Province was hailed as Miss Cosmo Philippines.
