Pageants fans were dismayed after organizers of the Miss Universe Philippines (MUPH) 2024 preliminary competition encountered a series of technical difficulties that resulted in a delayed telecast of the much-touted gala night of candidates.
The preliminary round took place last Sunday, May 19, at the Manila Hotel, and the MUPH initially announced that it would not be available to watch live; instead, a delayed telecast would be presented on May 20 to accommodate the fans.
They promised that an interviews with the candidates will be available to stream on the Empire.PH YouTube channel by noon of Monday, while the preliminary gala night will be streamed by 6 p.m. of the same day.
However, as the fans anticipated the livestream, the telecast featuring the preliminary interviews was delayed by an hour, and by the time it opened, it went through a series of technical issues, including low audio quality, poor camera angles, and pauses during the live in between.
Meanwhile, the pictures of the candidates in the gala best had not been posted on MUPH’s social media pages, as promised.
After the pageant fans expressed their dismay on social media, the MUPH organizer posted a statement around 3 p.m., apologizing for the technical issues during the airing of preliminary interviews and saying that they have “reuploaded it in a form that’s best for all and is now available for viewing on the Empire.PH YouTube channel.”
The local organization then posted another statement announcing that the gala night will move to a later time, citing that “even with enhanced capacity, our computers and hardware were not enough to handle hours worth of HD footage, hence the delays.” The telecast premiered around 2 in the morning.
Given the blunders, fans took to the comment section of MUPH’s official Facebook account to express their disappointment. After numerous negative comments, the local organizer turned off access to its comment section.
“Bakit ganun? Abang kami ng abang kagabi at nabulaga sa walang live? My goodness. Mas ok pa yung ginanap sa Sultan Kudarat napaka smooth ng flow. Baka mamaya ang coronation night ganun din? Kaloka. Maloka ako,” a fan lamented.
“Naputol ang excitement ng mga tao, I know pwede naman panuorin ang posted video subalit hindi gaya ng live makapagreact agad. Iba ang ingay at sari-saring opinion ng mga tao gabi siguro kung napanood nila agad,” said another.
The grand coronation night of Miss Universe Philippines 2024 will take place tomorrow, May 22, at 8 p.m. at Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.
