Reese Witherspoon has excited fans as she donned her iconic pink outfit again, announcing the upcoming release of a “Legally Blonde” series prequel.

On Instagram, the Hollywood star shared that a “Legally Blonde” prequel titled “Elle” will be heading to a streaming platform next year.

“Elle” is expected to follow the iconic Elle Woods in high school, showing her experiences that shaped her into the young woman viewers came to know and love in the first “Legally Blonde” film.

“Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ‘90s high school girl. And all of you are going to get to know her next year on [Prime Video]. I’M SO EXCITED!” Witherspoon wrote.

Witherspoon will serve as an executive producer for the prequel via her media company, Hello Sunshine.

No casting for the young version of Elle has been disclosed, but many have been campaigning for Witherspoon’s 24-year-old daughter, Ava Elizabeth Phillippe, to take on the role as she shares an uncanny resemblance to her mother.

“Please tell us that your daughter is taking over the role,” wrote one netizen, which gathered almost 8,000 likes as of this writing.

According to Box Office Mojo, the first “Legally Blonde” movie was a huge box-office smash, earning over $140 million worldwide. In 2003, Witherspoon reprised the role in “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde,” which grossed over $100 million at the box office.

Over the years, the “Morning Show” actress has expressed her desire to return for a third “Legally Blonde” film, but during the time that “Legally Blonde 3” was being discussed, the pandemic came.

“I’m still hoping that ‘Legally Blonde 3’ is going to come together in the right way. It’s just like ‘Top Gun.’ They waited a long time to make another version of that movie, and I loved the nostalgia piece they incorporated in it,” she told USA TODAY in 2022.

Despite already starring in different roles at the time, Witherspoon gained wider recognition for her role in “Legally Blonde.” In 2006, she won an Academy Award for Best Actress for portraying June Carter Cash in the musical biopic “Walk the Line.”
