Isay Alvarez recalls gap with Kim Molina during election season
Isay Alvarez admitted that she and Kim Molina had an “unpleasant phase” at some point during the elections, but is thankful for their “happy reunion” in their new film “Seoulmeyt.”
Without disclosing too many details, the theater actress said she and Molina’s relationship went through a rough patch during the elections, although she claimed to have always considered the latter as her daughter.
Alvarez campaigned for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte’s tandem in the 2022 presidential elections, while Molina expressed her support for then-vice president Leni Robredo and former senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan’s campaign.
“Kamukha ni Direk Darryl [Yap], nagkaroon kami ng hindi magandang phase sa buhay namin sa elections. Very close kami. Mga anak-anakan ko [sila] sa teatro, maraming nawala. Nagkaroon kami ng… actually hindi ko alam na ganito ang pakiramdam nila sa’min, kasi ino-honor ko naman sila,” she said at a press conference for the film.
(Just like director Darryl Yap, we had an unpleasant phase in our lives during the elections. We were really close. I considered her as my daughter in theater and among them, our pleasant relationship was gone. We had a… I actually didn’t know they felt this way towards me because I honored them.)

It’s our reunion actually. It’s our first time noong look test, doon kami nagkita.”
(I didn’t hear any painful words from them but I heard from some of their mates they said a lot of things about us. I’m just so happy that we’re together on this project. It’s our reunion actually. The first look was the first time we had seen each other since then.)
Alvarez and Molina previously worked together in the long-running musical “Rak of Aegis,” among other theater projects. Despite not knowing how their dynamic would turn out, she’s happy to be with the latter.
“Hindi ko alam papaano ang magiging dynamics namin kasi matagal kaming hindi nagusap or nakapagkita. But it is a happy reunion. I’m just so glad na tapos na ‘yung phase na ‘yun sa buhay namin and sana gan’un din ang iba,” she said.
(I don’t know how our dynamics would be because we haven’t talked or met in a while. But it’s a happy reunion. I’m just so glad that this phase of our lives is done, and I hope others will do the same.)
Also in the mediacon, Darryl Yap revealed that he had a “gap” with Molina but had since mended their friendship since then.
“Seoulmeyt” is written and directed by Yap, which stars Molina, Alvarez, Jerald Napoles, and Candy Pangilinan.
