As a single mom, “Pinoy Big Brother” alum Hasna Cabral considers her children Basha and Baste — who are both diagnosed with autism — as her source of strength and a reminder of how strong she truly is.
Cabral was among the housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother: Otso” in 2018 where she touched audiences’ hearts with her story of raising Basha and Baste alone.
Her firstborn is diagnosed with intellectual ability which limits her ability to digest information and do daily activities. Meanwhile, her second child was detected with global developmental delay which affected his development early in their age.
Six years later, a beaming Cabral told reporters on the sidelines of Star Magic’s “MAMAmagical” event that her kids will always be her source of strength despite the challenges she went through. The former housemate had her left arm slung around Basha’s shoulder throughout the brief chat; while Baste couldn’t make it at the time.
“My kids are my source of strength. Parehas kasi silang may condition (My kids are my source of strength despite going through such conditions),” she said. “Some people would say they would wish for a different life, but no. For me, they are the summer that brought the flowers in me.”

The former housemate said Basha and Baste made her believe in her own strength, adding that “seeing them progress” is the best part of being a mom.
“They pushed me and made me believe that I’m this strong… The best part of being a mom is seeing them progress — especially as an autism mom like me. Seeing [them] grow and seeing [them] interact is a definition of my success,” she said.
Despite this, Cabral said she wouldn’t consider herself a “super mom” without the help of her relatives and the teachers who help with her children’s growth.
“As an autism mom, you shouldn’t carry your problems alone. I’m not a supermom alone. The credit has to be given to the right people: when I go to work, she has her lola,” she said. “Hindi talaga ako mag-isa (I’m not alone). I have a strong foundation.”
“Being a single mom, they have their titas and titos whom they can call anytime. Her teachers at school would also communicate with me and tell me their progress,” she continued.
Cabral, who considers “watching anything” to be her favorite pastime with her children, made reporters laugh after adding: “Except mga shows ko.”
The rising star appeared in Kapamilya shows like “Darna,” “La Vida Lena,” and “Pira-Pirasong Paraiso.”
