JoshLia fans are in for a treat as Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto are set to reunite in the upcoming film “Un/happy For You,” their first movie project together after four years.
Garcia and Barretto’s film was announced at a “New Movie Alert” virtual media conference on Star Cinema and VIVA Films’ YouTube channels on Wednesday, April 24. Their reunion project will be directed by filmmaker Petersen Vargas.
The actor said he did not hesitate in accepting the project, saying it’s been a while since he worked together with Barretto in a movie. He added that coming together after having their “own journeys” made the experience more “exciting.”
“Noong nalaman ko ‘yung project, sabi ko, ‘yes’ agad. Ang tagal kasi ng agwat ng panahon ng huli naming project,” said Garcia. “Teenager pa kami n’un. Ngayon, you can say na nag-mature at lumaki na kami. Ang exciting na nag-kanya kanyang journey kami and magkakabalikan kami sa pelikula.”
(When I found out about the project, I said “yes” right away. It’s been a while since our last project. We were teenagers then. Now, you can say that we matured and grown. It’s exciting that we had our own journeys because we got back together in a film.)
On the other hand, Barretto revealed that there were “several attempts” for them to work together, but said their upcoming film came at the “right time” since they’re now both at a “good place” in their lives.
“Over the years, there were several attempts to bring us together [in a project], even during the pandemic. But when a good material comes along and working with Joshua is such an exciting idea, it almost felt like it’s the right time, right material, and we’re both in a good place in our lives,” she said.
The ABS-CBN led film production company also shared a look test of the actors’ reunion project, which showed Garcia and Barretto in what appeared to be a confrontation after messing up their relationship.

Details on their co-stars and premiere date are yet to be announced, as of press time.
The upcoming film comes four years after Garcia and Barretto’s last film together, “Block Z” in 2020.
Known as JoshLia, the ex-couple also worked together in the movies “Vince and Kath and James,” “Love You To The Stars and Back,” “Unexpectedly Yours,” and “I Love You, Hater,” as well as the teleserye “Ngayon at Kailanman.”
Garcia and Barretto were in. a relationship for two years until they called it quits in 2019. Both remained as friends to this day, with the actress currently dating Gerald Anderson. Garcia, on the other hand, is rumored to be in a relationship with Emilienne Vigier.
