Astro’s leader Park Jin-woo, also known as Jinjin, released the digital single “Fly,” a duet with Moonbin, to honor the latter’s first death anniversary.

Written and composed by Jinjin, the duet was recorded prior to Moonbin’s untimely death on April 19, 2023.

In the comments section of the music video, Astro’s fandom, called AROHA, expressed their emotional reactions upon hearing the late K-pop star’s voice once again.

“I’m about to cry. I can’t believe that it’s been a year since he passed away but his spirit lives on forever. He may not be here physically but he’s here in spirit. Thank you for letting us hear his voice again JinJin.” wrote one fan.

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) also paid their tribute to the late K-pop star.

Moonbin’s sudden death shocked the K-pop industry after South Korean media reported that he died by suicide and that there were no signs of foul play in connection with the death.

Days before his death, Moonbin opened up about experiencing “hard times” amid the subunit’s concert tour at the time.

“I was going through a rough time,” he said during his live sessions with fans. “I tried to not let it show, but I think it did. I’m sorry. […] I’m trying to get better. I’m exercising and doing things I’ve been missing out on. I have to recover and make Aroha happy.”

Moonbin’s loss was mourned by colleagues from the entertainment industry, including his Astro bandmates, Boo Seungkwan of Seventeen, Sinb of Viviz and Moon Sua, a member of girl group Billlie, and also Moonbin’s little sister, among others.

Moonbin died at the age of 25.
