Real-life couple and entertainment industry mainstays Shamaine and Nonie Buencamino are set to work on the big screen once more as they headline a movie entry in the newest local film festival happening this March.

Helmed by the creator of the 2017 acclaimed film “Kita Kita,” Sigrid Andrea Bernardo will introduce six different lives of people stuck inside a supermarket in “Pushcart Tales.” Aside from the seasoned actors, the film will also feature veteran actor-director-producer Carlos Siguion-Reyna, and promising young stars Harvey Bautista, Therese Malvar, and Elora Españo.

To boost the Philippine movie industry, a supermarket company will hold its first ever Cinepanalo Film Festival and is set to spotlight a combination of short and full-length films, tallying 31 entries.

The film festival organizers granted 6 professional directors P2.5 million to bring their stories to the cinematic screen, while 25 student directors were each given P100,000 to fund their creative initiatives.

Aside from “Pushcart Tales” the other full-length films are “A Lab Story,” (directed by Carlo Gallen Obispo) “Boys at the Back,” (directed by Rayn Brizuela) “One Day League: Dead Mother, Dead All,” (directed by Eugene Torres) “Road to Happy,” (directed by Joel Ferrer) and “Under A Piaya Moon” (directed by Kurt Soberano). 

Meanwhile, students from Polytechnic University of the Philippines, UP Diliman, UP Visayas, Bicol University, Ateneo de Davao University, Mapua University, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas, and other universities will headline the short film category.

The 25 short films are divided into groups A,B,C,D, and E. Making up the Shorts A are “Kaibigan Ko Si Batman,” “I am Mutya and I thank you,” “Last Shift,” “May Kulay Rosas Ba Sa Bahaghari?” and “Hallway Scholar.” 

Shorts B tiles include “Repeater si Peter,” “Kang Pagpuli Ko (When I Went Home),” “Paano Po Gumawa ng College?” “Abandoned Lullabies,” and “Si Mary May Crush Kay Tess.” On the other hand, Shorts C are the following “Ka Benjie,” “Lola, Lola, Paano Ba ‘Yan,” “Naduea Eoman si Brownie (Brownie’s Lost Again),” “Lutong Bahay,” and “Distansya.”

Shorts D: “Tambal Nga Sabaw,” “Layag sa Pangarap,” “Sa Hindi Paghahangad,” “Kung Nag-aatubili,” and “Text Find Dad and Send to 2366.” Lastly, Shorts E: “Dzai, Dzai, Dzai, Delilah,” “Smokey Journey,” “Till ni Lola,” “Queng Apag,” and “Saan Ako Pinaglihi?”  

All entries will be screened at the Gateway Cineplex 18 from March 15 to 17, with tickets available for P300 and festival passes for P2,000, while PWDs, senior citizens, and students can avail a discount of P240 per film.
