Makabayan bloc files House resolution honoring Jaclyn Jose
MANILA, Philippines — Makabayan bloc lawmakers have filed a resolution offering condolences to the bereaved family of award-winning Filipina actress Jaclyn Jose and honoring her legacy and contributions to the country’s film industry.
As the nation marks Women’s Month, House Assistant Minority Leader Rep. Arlene Brosas led the filing of the House Resolution (HR) 1628 on Monday following the death of the actress last March 2.
“The House of Representatives expresses its profound condolences to the bereaved family of award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose and honors her legacy and contributions to the Philippine cinema,” the lawmakers said in the resolution released to the media on Wednesday.
Jose, whose real name was Mary Jane Guck, died due to a heart attack, as revealed by her daughter Andi Eigenmann, a former actress now businesswomen in Siargao.

Article continues after this advertisementThe resolution also recognizes the actress’ significant contributions to the film and television industry, highlighting her notable roles in the Flor Contemplacion Story (1995), Mula sa Puso (1997-1998), Patay na si Hesus (2016), and Kalel, 15 (2019).
Article continues after this advertisement“Jaclyn Jose made history as the sole Southeast Asian actress to clinch the prestigious Best Actress accolade at the 69th Cannes Film Festival for her depiction of a drug-dealing matriarch in Brillante Mendoza’s film Ma’Rosa in 2016,” the resolution reads.
“Her remarkable acting talent, nuanced character portrayals, and depth as a Filipina artist has undeniably left an enduring impact on our nation’s entertainment landscape, garnering,” it adds.
