Katy Perry announced she’s exiting as a judge of “American Idol” after seven seasons as she plans to “see more of the world” and “create new music.”

During an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Monday night, Feb. 12 (US time), the “Teenage Dream” singer said that the upcoming season of the singing competition will be her last.

“I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for ‘Idol,'” she said. “I love ‘Idol’ so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat. You know what I’m saying, Jimmy?”

The “California Gurls” singer, who last released an album in 2020, shared her sentiments about putting out new music as she leaves “American Idol.”

“I love the show so much, but I want to go and see the world and maybe bring new music,” said the pop singer. “Maybe I’ll come back if they have me one day.”

Perry has been a mainstay judge for “American Idol” since 2018 during its revived 16th season on ABC. She shares the judging duties with fellow music icons Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

“It’s going to be a very, very exciting year, Jimmy, for all pop star girlies,” Perry teased as she mentioned that her co-workers in the singing competition know what she plans for this year.

Given the hints at “seeing the world” and “new music,” fans speculate that the pop star will be starting a new tour and releasing a new album.

Last December, The Sun reported that the pop star would be releasing her “most personal” album this 2024, stressing that Perry had been working hard for the release.

“Katy has been working on her most personal album for much of the last two years”, said the publication according to its source. “She’s been doing it on her own terms and it’s quite different from anything she’s put out before.”
