Anne Curtis voiced her support for a petition that aims to stop the drilling operations for a wind farm at the Masungi Georeserve in Rizal.

The actress-TV host shared a brief explainer from the Masungi Georeserve project about the “critical threat to Masungi’s biodiversity,” through her X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

“In a shocking revelation, our drone surveillance uncovered multiple drilling operations by Rizal Wind Energy Corp. (RWEC), backed by Singapore-based Vena Energy, aggressively breaching the pristine Masungi limestone formation,” it read.

“Closer inspection of these images taken in late 2023 has brought to light the unsettling authorization of the Masungi Karst Conservation Area’s exploration for constructing approximately 12 colossal wind turbines,” it added.

It noted that the operation goes against the Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR) Administrative Order 33 which “strictly prohibits any commercial or industrial exploration or exploitation of the area.”

“This incident not only poses a severe risk to our invaluable biodiversity but also highlights the problematic aspects of transitioning to renewable energy sources without due consideration for environmental integrity,” it said, adding that the RWEC “has not signified any intention to find an alternative site for their wind farm.”

Curtis expressed the hope that the public would heed the call for action.

“I hope attention is brought to this. We really need to start prioritizing what beauty we have left! Especially places that are close to the Metro. Konti na lang natirira na malapit,” she wrote.
