Pops Fernandez has nothing but good words for her ex-husband, veteran singer Martin Nievera, who skipped staging his annual show to give way for her anniversary concert “Always Loved.”
Fernandez expressed her appreciation for Nievera who made an appearance at her show as guest, through a series of posts on her Instagram page on Monday, Feb. 12.
“To the man who I share my 40 plus years in the industry with… I don’t think I would have ‘shined’ as much until we worked together in ‘Penthouse Live’!” she wrote, recalling their days together in the 1980s variety show.
“There is that chemistry that up to this day is unparalleled. Even we are surprised. We bring out the best in each other,” she said.
Fernandez also noted that while he is an “excellent performer on his own,” she and Nievera make “magic” whenever they take the stage together.
“He has taught me how to be more passionate with my work only [because] that is how he is… his life is singing and performing,” she further spoke of him. “Thank you for all the lessons. Thank you for making me shine.”
Nievera, in response, underscored how proud he is of Fernandez, saying she “[shines] bright all by [herself].”
“Maybe there was a time in your [40s] that I had to disappear for a while to let you find your wings. And boy oh boy have you learned to fly!” he said.
“When you need our kind of magic I am never far away,” he vowed. “Thank you for the kind words and for including me in your 40th year celebration. Congratulations to you and your entire team. You were awesome!”
Other celebrities who were part of the concert and whom Fernandez paid tribute to were Joey Albert, Rowell Santiago, Randy Santiago, Homer Flores, Erik Santos, Georcelle Dapat-Sy, Top Suzara and Robin Padilla.
Nievera and Fernandez, dubbed as the local entertainment industry’s “Concert King and Queen,” got married in 1986 and were legally annulled in 2000.
Fernandez earlier opened up about their relationship and admitted that they also go through misunderstandings every so often.
“I don’t want to pretend na we are a hundred percent okay. We go through certain tampuhans, but what is good about it is we know how to deal with it,” she said.
“I think because we choose to always be okay, na-sesettle naman siya. We settle everything privately, and we deal through all those misunderstandings privately,” she added.
Nievera and Fernandez have two children, namely Robin and Ram. The veteran singers recently became grandparents as Robin welcomed baby Phineas Atlas, his first child with his partner Mian Acoba.
