Gabby Concepcion has a way of putting people at ease, which he proved last week at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. It certainly helps that he has maintained his matinee-idol-good looks.

The actor, who is in his late 50s, wore a pastel-colored suit over a gray tee and immaculate sneakers. He talked about aging and how many of us have similar experiences that come with growing older or, as he put it, “the opposite of being young.”

Gabby then related the first time he felt the “pins and needles,” as well as some numbing in his extremities.

“Actually, there are a lot of ‘first time feelings,’ like waking up and my hands and feet feeling numb. Akala ko pagod lang ako pero napapadalas,” he said.

He made it a point to consult with a doctor who prescribed medicine designed to treat one’s nerves.

Quality of life

“When I was younger—many moons ago—my Mom gave us vitamins, but the one she said we should really take is a vitamin B complex. They’re found in food like lentils, fish, pork and fruit. People say, ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff,’ but it’s sometimes important to focus on the small stuff before [conditions] worsen.”

Gabby then said that he makes it a point to enjoy life. “I enjoy staying in my beach house. Life is short but we still have time to enjoy, but make sure to put value on the quality of that life.”

The actor was the guest speaker in “A Talk on Peripheral Neuropathy” by a health care brand last weekend. INQ
