I’m a bride-chilla,” declared Jessy Mendiola, who also announced that she and TV host Luis Manzano will have their church wedding “very soon.”

The couple revealed in a vlog post that they were married in civil rites in Batangas in April 2021. This time around, Jessy said it would be a church wedding, “and that daughter Rosie will be the little bride.”

“Bride-chilla is the opposite of bride-zilla,” said Jessy as a way to explain that she is not a bride who is obsessive or intolerably demanding. “Whatever my wedding organizer thinks is good, I give her the freedom to decide. I’m just happy that everything is coming together slowly.”

She continued: “I’m really excited. This will happen very soon. Finally, I’ll have a wedding where my side of the family will all be present, and the Lord, of course. When we had our civil wedding, my family was in Japan, and my dad was in Lebanon, that’s why they were not able to join us,” Jessy recalled.

“Luis was so sweet because he told me, ‘Love, I think you should have the wedding of your dreams.’ For me, this is a ceremony where my family is present. Finally, they will be able to meet my father and mother-in-law, as well as Tito Ralph,” explained Jessy. Luis is the son of actors Edu Manzano and Vilma Santos, who is now married to Finance Secretary Ralph Recto. “They will also meet Rosie for the first time. That would make me really happy.”

Back to work

Since her daughter turned a year old recently, Jessy said she is gradually returning to work. In fact, she faced reporters for the first time over the weekend during her launch as ambassador of Health Fusion’s Beauty Bunny food supplement vitamins, which coincided with the Watsons 2024 Health Expo at SM Megatrade Hall in Mandaluyong City.

“I’m happy to see all of you again. I’m grateful that even though I’m not that active in show biz, companies still get me as their endorser. In terms of TV or movie projects, there’s nothing official yet. Although Luis and his family are busy conceptualizing a sitcom with ABS-CBN. We’re all excited about that,” Jessy revealed.

Jessy was also asked to react to Luis’ previous comment on being amenable to his wife doing bed scenes when she eventually returns to acting. To this, the actress replied: “Even I asked him, ‘Are you sure about this?’ He said I should really go for a project that I believe in, and if doing a bed scene can be justified, then I have his full support. It would be really up to me—whether or not I’d be comfortable and proud to do it.”

The right role

So far, there hasn’t been any offer to do “anything sexy,” Jessy admitted. “Most of them were romantic comedies. These were all in 2023. I didn’t entertain most of them because our baby was still too young. Maybe if I’d get another offer this time and I feel that it’s the right project, the right role, I’d say ‘yes.’ If ever there would be bed scenes, and I’d see that doing it would make sense, then why not?” the 31-year-old actress said.

During the event, Jessy was also asked to explain why she reacted to a netizen’s comment on a series of pictures she posted on Instagram that, she said, came from her birthday photo shoot. “The comment said I shouldn’t be posing sexy now that I’m a mom. When you post something on social media, you should already expect that someone will have an opinion different from yours. I felt that was a time to really speak up. Even though I’m already a mom, I still want to look pretty—like today, I really prepared and dressed up for all of you,” Jessy stressed.

“During that birthday shoot, I wanted to celebrate, to give myself time to feel beautiful, confident and proud of my body. It really just boils down to doing whatever makes you feel happy,” she pointed out.
