The death of screen veteran Ronaldo Valdez appeared to have left a permanent scar on Janno Gibbs, but he said it was a moment that prompted him and his wife Bing Loyzaga to sleep in the same bedroom.

Gibbs revealed that he and Loyzaga used to sleep in separate bedrooms so they wouldn’t take their different sleeping habits against each other in an interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal in 2020. But he clarified their relationship is fine and it’s a set-up they both agreed upon.

But since his father’s death in December 2023, the singer-comedian shared that his relationship with Loyzaga “drastically changed,” almost to the point where they decided to sleep in the same bedroom.

“It has drastically changed. We are now sleeping together. You see, the one who saw my dad’s state, that horrible state was me and Bing,” he said.

This made the longtime couple realize that they couldn’t be apart from each other.

“[Bing and I] cannot sleep alone now for a long time. I have to come back right away. Ako rin, hindi niya rin pwedeng iwanan (Me too, she can’t leave me alone). The whole family, the kids, they don’t want to be alone,” he said.

During the interview, Gibbs emphasized that Valdez was staying with him because his parents parted ways “late last year.” He, however, opted to not disclose the cause of their separation.

“They separated late last year. I asked my Dad to stay with me para hindi siya mag-isa (so he wouldn’t be alone). Either way, I would’ve asked my mom also but she had a place to stay,” he said. “I told my dad, ‘Sa akin ka na mag-stay para alagaan kita (Stay with me so I can take care of you).’”

Gibbs also shared that he and his family are now “staying somewhere else” since Valdez’s death. Despite this, he pointed out that he “never lost value” for his wife even if they used to sleep apart.

“Even though we weren’t in this condition, kahit noong separate pa kami ng units, I never lost value for Bing. She’s always been a great woman. She’s always been a great wife. Kahit na hindi kami okay (Even if there are times when we’re not okay), she would take care of me,” he said.

Gibbs has been married to Loyzaga since 1990. They have two daughters named Alyssa and Gabby.

The singer-comedian appeared in an episode of noontime show “Eat Bulaga” to promote his new film “Itutumba Ka ng Tatay Ko” which is said to be his directorial debut.

In a mediacon, Gibbs hoped that the new film would remind viewers of Valdez’s acting brilliance “in all his glory.”

At the age of 76, the screen veteran was found dead in his home in Quezon City on Dec. 17.
