Emily Blunt, Lily Gladstone react to being first-time Oscar nominees
Despite the controversial snubs, the 2024 Oscars have seen first-timers Emily Blunt, Lily Gladstone and more score their first ever Academy nomination. And given the recognition, the actresses gave statements to express their gladness.
Blunt, who’s nominated this year for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer in “Oppenheimer,” shared in a statement that she is “overjoyed” to mark her first Academy nomination.
“I’m completely overcome and overjoyed. Weak-legged and immensely grateful for this moment. It goes without saying that this staggering film has changed my life,” she said. “Colossal congratulations to my OppenHomies, who all blew the doors off the place in their fields. We are a family in this, so to raise a glass alongside my friends is a euphoric feeling indeed,”
Meanwhile, Gladstone, who made history as the first Native American to be nominated for best actress for her role as Mollie Burkhart in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” said in an interview with the Associated Press that this kind of recognition is “long overdue.”
“It’s all so long overdue. It’s a real moment of restoration, placing indigenous talent in these roles, spotlighting their humanity, their characters, just the way that all of the sisters exist on screen, I think is shattering a lot of stereotypes people have about Indigenous women,” she said.
