Kathryn Bernardo was the only one, aside from the immediate family, to have the chance to view the casket of veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez during his wake.

In an interview with TV Patrol, Valdez’s son, Janno Gibbs, shared that Bernardo was one of the first people to attend his father’s wake, and given how close Bernardo and Valdez were, the actress was treated like family.

“Kathryn was there, one of the firsts sa wake. She was the only one allowed to view. It was just immediate family plus they were really close,” said Gibbs.

Bernardo and the late renowned actor first worked together in the ABS-CBN series “2 Good 2 Be True.” The two became close as the 27-year-old actress treated Valdez like a “lolo she never had.”

Gibbs also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to other people including celebrities who attended his father’s wake and extended their sympathies on his tragic passing.

The “Fallin” singer also condemned the police for the manner his father’s case was handled, and the people who spread misinformation including the video of the late actor at the scene of his death.

“Shame on you. Wala na ba tayong natitirang dignidad, respeto sa isang namatayan? Alam ko hanapbuhay nila ‘yang pag vlo-vlog, pero at the expense of a family still grieving? Until now, traumatized pa kami,” said Gibbs.

“We still have episodes. Malagim na nga ‘yung aktwal na nangyari, ginawa pa nilang mas malagim. Dinoble pa nila ‘yung pag-share information and making up information,” he added.

The former “That’s Entertainment” host weighed in on how some people can stomach interfering with other people’s private matters, especially during a time of grieving.

“I’m doing this not just for us but as a netizen, as a private citizen, I’m shocked at what some police, some netizens are capable of, vloggers, kahit na mga common tao nagshe-share sa Facebook,” stated Gibbs.

“I am shocked na kaya niyong sikmurahin ‘yung ganon kasi ako hindi ko kayang gawin ‘yun sa ibang tao. I’m doing this for social awareness also and reform. I don’t wish this on anybody else, hindi niyo kakayanin,” he added.

Gibbs turned emotional as he looked back on his father’s memories and emphasized his hope that what happened to their family will not happen to other families.
