Miles Ocampo underscored that her love and respect for Elijah Canlas, whom she regards as her “true love,” have remained despite their breakup.

The actress-TV host opened up about their breakup, although she opted not to divulge any particular reason behind it, as seen in a vlog on broadcaster Karen Davila’s YouTube channel on Thursday, Jan. 11.

“May mga bagay na nangyari—of course, sa isang relationship hindi lang naman isang tao; you [both] have to make it work. May pagkukulang ‘yung isa’t isa but I’m happy na naiwan lahat ng issues namin na ‘yon sa 2023,” Ocampo said.

(Things happened. Of course, a relationship consists of two people so you both have to make it work. There were shortcomings from both parties, but I’m happy that we already put those issues behind us.)

“We opened this year na okay na kami, na nag-uusap na ulit and all,” she continued. “Syempre ‘di rin naman biro ‘yung mga pinagdaanan namin. May mga bagay na kaming dalawa lang ang makakaalam at makakasagot sa isa’t isa, so might as well be friends for now.”

(We opened this year with us on good terms and speaking with each other again. What we had gone through together was not easy. There are things that only the two of us know and questions that only we can answer, so [we] might as well be friends for now.)

Davila then asked, “Siya ba ang true love mo? (Is he your true love?)” to which Ocampo replied, “Yes. First boyfriend, first everything.”

During their conversation, Ocampo stated that she had already forgiven Canlas for his mistakes. However, the actress chose not to further expound on the matter.

“Forgiveness naman ang pinakaimportante sa lahat. [It’s] for myself din and since I still have love for that person,” she told Davila. “Lahat naman ng tao nagkakamali, dapat lang maging accountable ‘yung mga tao sa mga nagawa nila.” (Everyone makes mistakes, but they should take accountability for it.)

Ocampo also disclosed that she is focusing on her career at the moment, and that she is not ready yet to date other people.

When asked if she is open to possibilities of reconciliation with Canlas, she said, “Tingnan natin ang universe magsabi.” (Let’s wait for what the universe has to say.)

“May pinagsamahan kami, matagal din kami and kapag gano’n na marami kayong pinagdaanan together, maraming happiness together, parang I have so much love and respect for that person,” she spoke of he actor.

(We had been together for quite some time. We shared struggles and happiness together, so I have so much love and respect for that person.)

Ocampo and Canlas were together for over two years. Their breakup was confirmed to the public in November last year.
