Asia tour of ‘Miss Saigon’ looking for child actors to portray Tam

The upcoming Asia leg of Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of Boublil and Schönberg’s classic musical “Miss Saigon” is on the hunt for young thespians who can bring life to the role of Tam, son of lead characters Kim and Chris.
Open calls were announced by organizer GMG Productions on its Facebook page on Friday, Jan. 5. It said auditions will be held from Jan. 11 to 12 at the Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City.
Meanwhile, pre-registration through GMG’s website is ongoing until Jan. 9.
The role is open to children between the ages of four and eight, who are willing to perform in its upcoming staging in the Philippines and other countries in Asia.
“The role can be portrayed by any gender. However, please note auditionees with long hair may be required to cut it if cast,” the organizer said. “The children must be confident — but be able to be still and silent. The role of Tam does not speak or sing. There is no preparation required for the auditions.
The award-winning musical will be staged in March, under the helm of GMG Productions in association with GWB Entertainment. The new production is directed by Laurence Connor, with musical staging by Bob Avian and additional choreography by Geoffrey Garratt.
Set in Vietnam in the 1970s, “Miss Saigon” tells the story of a young Vietnamese woman named Kim who falls in love with an American GI named Chris.
It was first staged at West End and Broadway in 1989 and 1991, respectively, with Lea Salonga taking on the titular role of Kim.
