Pops Fernandez says streaming platforms make it easy for new artists

Pops Fernandez reflected on the impact of streaming platforms for new and old artists in the music industry.
During a press conference and contract signing with Viva Artists Agency (VAA), the Filipina singer admitted that it was only recently that she learned how streaming platforms work.
“Actually, recently ko lang naintindihan. I’m still trying to understand Spotify,” she said. “I didn’t know that I already had an artist account there until, of course, I did a new single. So I am, like, learning a lot of things.”
She noted that new artists are lucky to have digital platforms for their music compared to their generation, which had to go the old-school way.
“They’re very, very lucky,” she said. “Before, kasi kami pahirapan i-play ang kanta. I remember there’s Side A and Side B (cassette tapes). Isa-scratch pa yung side B para side A lang ang i-play. And then they would count the number of plays on the radio.”
Fernandez said that with the help of streaming platforms, artists can easily upload their songs, and they can easily reach an audience that will generate views.
“They will just upload it, nagandahan ang kanilang followers, and it will automatically generate a million views. So, I think they got it more than kami. They are very lucky, as long as they believe in themselves. And they are very talented,” she noted.
The “Philippines Concert Queen” also commented on how the new generation of artists can easily hold concerts outside the country and the opportunities they get to receive more global attention.
“I feel that they are very, very lucky, and sila pa ngayon nagta-travel rin. They get to do a lot of shows outside the country. Before bago ma-notice ‘di ba, it’s such a big deal to make it internationally,” the singer reflected.
“Now, it’s easier because there are plenty of ways to be noticed and to get there. As long as, again, you have the courage and the artistry, you can do it,” Fernandez concluded.
