Red Velvet eyes new album to celebrate 10th anniversary
Ten years after debuting with “Happiness,” Irene—leader of K-pop female quintet Red Velvet—hinted that a “meaningful album” is in the works, although details are yet to be disclosed.
Red Velvet made their debut in August 2014 with the single “Happiness” as a four-piece act, consisting of Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy. The youngest member, Yeri, was added into the group in March 2015, and was revealed through the music video of their song “Ice Cream Cake.”
“Next year is our 10th anniversary as a group. As a team, we would like to release a meaningful album in response to it and we would like to see more fans as we wish,” Irene told reporters during an intimate mediacon.
Irene was joined by her bandmates Seulgi and Wendy, as they were included in the performers of a New Year’s Countdown Party in Taguig.

“In the coming year, I would like to chill and live a happier life without anxiety in terms of doing this work. I think it would help in creating more work [that ensures] longevity. I wish to live with more happiness,” she said.
Wendy agreed with Seulgi’s New Year’s resolution, as she noted that she wants everyone to be “healthy and happy.”
“All I wanna say about next year or my resolution is just to be healthy and happy. For me and the group and for everyone here,” she said.
Red Velvet is best known for their hit songs “Red Flavor,” “Psycho,” “Bad Boy,” “Zimzalabim” and “Peek-a-Boo,”among others. They recently dropped their third full-length album “Chill Kill,” which includes the title track of the same name, in November 2023.
The members of the girl group are also active in the entertainment industry as a sub-unit, solo artists and actors. In July 2020, Irene and Seulgi debuted as a duo with the extended play “Monster.”
Meanwhile, Wendy is the first Red Velvet member to debut as a soloist with her first EP “Like Water” in April 2021, while Joy released her mini album “Hello” a month later. Seulgi made her solo debut with the EP “28 Reasons” in October 2022.
Seulgi and Wendy are also part of the SM Entertainment female unit GOT The Beat, which was unveiled to the public in January 2022. The group is also composed of aespa’s Karina and Winter, soloist Boa, and Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and Hyoyeon.
On the other hand, Irene, Joy and Yeri also made a name for themselves as actresses with their respective projects.
