Kapamilya star Kaila Estrada took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to share that she got scammed just by answering a call from an unknown caller.

The actress didn’t reveal how or what kind of scam she experienced, but she warned netizens to be safe when answering phone calls from unrecognized numbers.

“I just got scammed. People out there can be very convincing these days, so don’t answer calls from unknown numbers. Stay safe, guys! ” wrote Estrada.

Netizens have been asking the actress what happened, while others have shared that they have also been scammed recently, noting that phone calls are scammers’ modus operandi nowadays.

This despite the passage in October last year of Republic Act 11934, known as the SIM Registration Act, which mandates the registration of all subscriber identity module — or SIM — cards of mobile devices, either post-paid, or prepaid, prior to activation. The measure hoped to curb the rampant cybercriminal activities, among others, that prey on the unsuspecting.

The extension of the original deadline for SIM card registration was last April 26, 2023.

Many of Estrada’s followers appeared to have found her post relatable.

“Na scammed rin ako 3 days ago, na hacked account ko,” wrote X user @MaylaEstacio.

“Awww. Uso ngayon mga ganyang modus mhie ingat next time. Sana marecover mo yung nascam,” said another netizen.

“Oh, me too. BDO. I don’t know what scammed you, Queen, but let’s all be careful,” wrote social media user @iamjuanthegreat.

Kaila is the daughter of former partners Janice de Belen and John Estrada. She is currently gaining recognition for her role in Prime Video’s “Linlang” as Sylvia Lualhati.

Not long after, she was cast in Netflix’s “Can’t Buy Me Love.” with an upcoming project, the comedy-drama film “Fruitcake,” in the works.

Estrada was not the first celebrity to get scammed this year. In November, actress Arci Muñoz revealed that her credit card was stolen during an international flight from Japan to the Philippines, and the card was used in Vietnam.

In the same month, Kapuso actress Carla Abellana lamented on social media and expressed her dismay after an unknown transaction amounting to $11,087.33 (P620,009) was charged to her credit card.

Additionally, celebrity couple Mikee Quintos and Paul Salas also filed an estafa complaint this year alongside seven other individuals against a cryptocurrency group after they claimed they got scammed of P8 million.
