“So sad. I hope they get back together soon,” wrote one user. “11 years is a long time, though. [I] wish them happiness,” said @sylvagoldfish. More non-fans offered their sympathy to the couple and their fans.

Meanwhile, Filipino fans pointed out that the KathNiel breakup is like a worldwide mourning event now as the news made it to Pop Crave.

KathNiel’s relationship timeline

Bernardo and Padilla’s Instagram post confirming their breakup shook the Philippine entertainment industry, as the two are one of the most beloved and longest-lasting couples in the country.

The couple had been together since 2012 but only made their relationship public in 2018. Over the years, the box-office king and queen weathered the storms arising from controversies. Yet the true reason for their breakup remains undisclosed.

The reel and real couple were first paired up in the teenybopper afternoon series “Growing Up,” leading to their first primetime series, “Princess and I.” The two also starred in their first movie together, Star Magic’s 20th anniversary film, “24/7 in Love.”

Star Cinema’s “Must Be Love” marked Bernardo and Padilla’s first lead movie. In 2014, the couple worked with Cathy Garcia-Molina for the movie adaptation of the best-selling book “She’s Dating the Gangster,” which reached the P100 million mark in just five days of its showing.

Over the years, the couple has headlined more successful projects, such as the movie “Crazy Beautiful You,” the primetime series “Pangako Sa’yo,” the romantic comedy film “I Can’t Help Falling in Love” and their final 2018 movie drama, “The Hows of Us.”
