Liza Soberano expressed her support for the Palestinian people by using a watermelon filter on TikTok, which was made to raise funds for charities aiding the victims in war-torn Gaza.

The Filipino actress shared a video of herself lip-synching to Lorde’s “Team” while tracing the watermelon filter via her TikTok page last Nov. 15. Soberano’s post has garnered over a million likes and more than 10 million views, as of writing.

While Soberano did not include any caption in her post, it can be noted that the filter—named “filter for good”—was made by TikTok user Jourdan Louise to generate funds for the people in Gaza through the platform’s Effect Creator Rewards program.

@xojourdanlouise How using this filter can help the people of Gaza 🍉 — @Jourdan 🖤 As an AR creator, I am part of the Effect Creator Rewards program – basically like the creativity fund but for effect creators. This allows me to earn money for each unique video published using my effects*. I have created this FILTER FOR GOOD effect and will be donating the rewards earned to charities providing aid in Gaza. I know many of us don’t know how to help, but it can be as simple as posting a video with this filter! *Effects only can start earning rewards once 200,000 people have posted a video using it, which seems like a lot but it can easily be achieved! Please comments, save, and share to boost and encourage everyone to use this filter 🍉 #newfilter #effecthouse #watermelon #free #blackgirlsintech #augmentedreality #socialchange #filterforgood ♬ Redbone (feat. The filter is filled with watermelons, which bears the colors of the Palestinian flag and which has been used as a symbol of Palestinian solidarity since the 1960s.

Over two weeks after the filter was launched, Jourdan Louise announced that it has already raised $14,000 (over P770,000) which she will donate to several humanitarian aid organizations helping people in Gaza.

@xojourdanlouise Replying to @Jeremy the glove // WE DID IT !!! We have reached the maximum reward and have generated $14k for humanitarian aid 🫶🏾🍉 Free resources to show support & take action: 1.) War has raged in Gaza after the militant group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel last Oct. 7 which killed 1,200 people, according to Israeli tallies.

Israel has since placed Gaza under siege and relentless bombardment, which then killed more than 14,000 Gazans, around 40% of them children, according to medical officials in the Hamas-ruled territory.

On Wednesday, Nov. 22, Israel’s government and Hamas agreed to a four-day ceasefire in Gaza to allow in aid and release at least 50 hostages captured by militants in exchange for at least 150 Palestinians jailed in Israel.

Aside from Soberano, other celebrities who showed support for Palestinian people amid the Israel-Hamas war were beauty queen Gazini Ganados and actress Janella Salvador.
