Kaila Estrada hopes to do a remake of mom Janice de Belen’s horror films
If given a chance, Kaila Estrada would want to reprise a role previously portrayed by her mother, award-winning actress Janice de Belen, in horror films.
“Kami na magkakapatid, we love watching horror movies. And so, any one of her ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ episodes or ‘Pridyider’ would be amazing,” shared the “Viral Scandal” actress during the recently concluded ABS-CBN Ball.
(My siblings and I love watching horror flicks. And so playing her role in any one of her “Shake, Rattle & Roll” episodes or “Pridyider” would be amazing.)
“Pridyider,” which is an episode from the first installment of “Shake, Rattle & Roll,” was helmed by the late National Artist for Film Ishmael Bernal. Decades later, de Belen would appear in its 2012 version, a full-length film, which also starred Andi Eigenmann and JM De Guzman.
The young actress also mentioned her mother’s 1988 horror movie “Tiyanak,” as another horror film she wants to star in. She also expressed that she wants to feature in an action project. “Action is really my dream genre.”

Kasi, siyempre my mom is an amazing actress, and she’s been doing this for years… I want to sort of get to a point where kaya ko na’ng lumevel (I am able to be on the same level) with her,” she explained.
Having both her parents in the industry — her father is “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” actor John Estrada — she shared that she needs to remind herself that she is carving her own path in the entertainment industry.
“I feel like I also have to remind myself that I have my own journey in the industry, and iba naman ‘yung journey nung parents ko (and that my parents’ journey in the entertainment industry is different from mine)… and they’re also there to remind me of that,” she said, and earlier expressed that her mother also reminded her to stay grounded.
Aside from being told to “always be professional” and to “never use” her being her daughter to her advantage, Estrada shared that her mother has always reminded her “to be [herself].”
“Sabi niya (She said), ‘You know, in this business, hindi mo kailangan baguhin ‘yung sarili mo (you don’t have to change yourself). You’re fine and you’re great on your own and with how you are. So, just stay that way.’” she shared.
Estrada is set to appear in both the DonBelle teleserye “Can’t Buy Me Love,” and “Linlang,” which will feature Kim Chiu, Paulo Avelino, and Maricel Soriano, among others. EDV
