In the Philippines, ‘Shake, Rattle, & Roll’ is the equivalent of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ in terms of the number of sequels that have spanned decades. Although Shake, Rattle, and Roll movies usually contain three mini-movies or episodes in one movie, then right there, it follows more in the lines of a ‘Creepshow’ or ‘Tales from the Crypt’ because of its multiple episodes in one movie. Either way, there is no question that the ‘Shake, Rattle, & Roll’ movies have become ingrained in Philippine cinemas; and it is because of Regal that horror is taken seriously in the Philippines.

I myself as a pre-teen remember seeing snippets of a ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ movie shown on local channels as I flipped channels. I do not remember specifically which ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ it was. What I do remember were certain monsters, creatures and some actors that were shown in specific scenes. The point is this is the longest running horror franchise in Philippine Cinema. It is nearly impossible to find anyone who has not seen the movies or at the very least has heard of them.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention this aspect about the ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ movies. More often than not, it can become a launching pad to stardom for new and young actors. In some cases, it can help revive one’s career and it is always a feather on his cap for every actor who appears in a Shake, Rattle & Roll movie. It is that critical and vital for any actor’s career to appear in a Shake, Rattle & Roll whether it be a minor or major role for him. So, I am guessing it is every actor’s dream to be chosen.

Here is the great news! In the remainder of 2023, there is going to be a brand-new ‘Shake, Rattle, & Roll’ movie. It is titled ‘Shake, Rattle, & Roll EXTREME’. The sub-title alone to this sequel means Regal is not going to hold back on the scares, frights, and thrills. Then, when you combine that with excellent storytelling and actors, you get a complete package of a fright-fest movie that is sure to be as scary as it can be pushing further the boundaries of horror.

Now, I was able to interview two actresses who are only two of the very big cast of actors of the upcoming ‘Shake, Rattle, and Roll EXTREME.’ They are “Regal Babies,” Mika Reins and Jana Taladro.

Below is my interview with them.

Let us get to know what Mika Reins and Jana Taladro have to say of the ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ movies and if anything in it truly frightened them?

1. When you were chosen to be a cast member of the latest installment of Shake, Rattle & Roll, how did you feel? Did you ever imagine that one day you would be a part of the longest running horror franchise in Philippine Cinema?

Mika Reins: I can’t even begin to describe the incredible moment when I learned that I was chosen to join the cast of ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll EXTREME’. The rush of excitement was off the charts because I knew I was about to become a part of cinematic history.

You know, they say that if you haven’t experienced the legacy of ‘Mano Po’ or the chills of ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll,’ you’re missing out on the real acting adventure!

Never in my wildest dreams did I envision myself being part of ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll,’ and I’m just bursting with gratitude for this fantastic opportunity especially to Regal Films, Achi Roselle Monteverde, Mother Lily, and the entire PR team (Aiz Domingo, Dominic Mangubat and others) for placing their trust in me!

Jana Taladro: When I was chosen to be a cast member of ‘Shake, Rattle, & Roll’, I was super happy! I was overwhelmed with mixed emotions; I felt nervous, I felt excited, and I could not believe it because before I would only get to watch it, and now I have been cast into one. I am very thankful to Ms. Roselle Monteverde of Regal Entertainment, Inc. because this will be my biggest break because this will be my first movie.

2. What is your favorite Shake, Rattle, and Roll movie? What made it your favorite?

Mika Reins: My favorite ‘Shake, Rattle, & Roll’ movie would have to be ‘Ukay-Ukay’ from Shake, Rattle, and Roll XI, starring Ruffa Gutierrez. I adore the concept of a haunted wedding dress worn by a ghostly bride from the past. Apart from the horror elements, the story itself was truly beautiful.

Jana Taladro: My favorite ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll’ movie was the one that starred Manilyn Reynes because my family and I really enjoy watching horror films, especially if there are werewolves, zombies, and other monsters. Yes, the Aswang is what I will never forget because the story was very interesting.

3. Have you yourself experienced anything paranormal in real life? If you haven’t, would you want to experience it?

Mika Reins: Not really. And I definitely don’t want to experience anything paranormal in real life. I’m happy with sticking to haunted houses and horror movies! Haha.

Jana Taladro: I have yet to experience anything paranormal and I do not want to experience one because I am easily frightened. Little unexplained occurrences would make me pray right away! haha..

4. What do you think of the horror genre in movies in general? Are you a fan of it?

Mika Reins: I’ve been a huge fan of horror movies since I was little. What I love about them is the thrill, excitement, and the goosebumps they give you while watching.

Jana Taladro: I am a super fan of anything to do with horror in movies regardless of what kind of horror movie it would be. Like I said, horror movies are my family’s favorite to watch. That is why, when we were shooting the mukhbang in ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll EXTREME’, I was fully enjoying the whole scene.

5. Why should moviegoers watch the latest installment of Shake, Rattle, and Roll? Why should they watch this over other movies being offered?

Mika Reins: I mean, it’s ‘Shake, Rattle, & Roll,’ and it’s coming back ‘EXTREME!’ It’s the longest-running horror movie since 1984, and there hasn’t been one since 2014 until now.

This ‘Shake, Rattle, & Roll EXTREME’ is different from the rest. Without spoiling anything, it mirrors today’s generation of horrors and fears, while also shedding light on some societal aspects. Get ready for some serious goosebumps! This movie is going to shock the audience to its core, all the while carrying forward the legacy of what ‘Shake, Rattle, and Roll’ is all about.

Jana Taladro: We all know that when we mention ‘Shake, Rattle, & Roll’, it is going to be beautiful, and the quality is going to be superior because it is from Regal. The stories will be timely and for sure, everyone who gets to watch it will enjoy because a lot of attention was put into making every single episode here. We put everything into this to make it a great a movie as possible. I want to give a big thanks to Director Jerrold for guiding me so that I can portray my character “Hannah” in this movie. I also want to thank my co-stars who were very supportive of me and the same goes for the staff and crew of this movie.
