Memes about Jose Mari Chan have already been peeping on social media days before the “ber” months begin, and the singer is nothing but pleased to be one of the “symbols of Philippine Christmas.”

Chan—whose Christmas songs re-emerge annually to welcome the holiday season—recalled how memes about him started making rounds on social media several years ago, during an interview for “Unang Hirit” on Friday, Aug. 25.

“Nakikita ko ‘yung [I could see the memes] and I really wonder who’s behind those memes, who created those memes. That started about what? 10 years ago?” he said.

Despite having no idea of its origin, Chan expressed his gratitude to fans who consistently remember him when the holiday season comes.

“Thank you very much for making me one of the symbols of Philippine Christmas,” the singer added.

When asked what meme of himself he would like to see, Chan gamely answered, “I’d like to see a meme where I’m waking up early in the morning, there’s a parol sa (lantern hanging in the) window [then I’d say], ‘Wow! It’s Christmas!'”

Some of Chan’s popular songs include “Christmas in Our Hearts” and “A Perfect Christmas.” The singer also released several Christmas songs in 2019 as part of his album “Going Home to Christmas,” which was originally released in 2012.  /ra
