Carla Abellana expressed profound grief as she bid farewell to her 11-year-old dog Patches who recently passed away.

The actress recalled how she received Patches as a gift from her stepdad during a “very dark period of [her] life,” through her Instagram page last Sunday, Aug. 20.

“Her purpose was to bring light and companionship into my life,” Abellana said. “I came home from work late one evening to see [Patches] inside a small crate. Right there and then, I truly felt I was no longer going to be alone. I fell in love with Patchy Poo.”

“Fast forward to 11 years, God decided that she had already fulfilled her purpose here on earth. He suddenly needed her back,” she continued. “Though I wasn’t even given the chance to protest, I had to respect the Lord’s painful decision to take her away from me.”

Abellana then noted that despite the sadness and her longing for Patches, she finds “a tiny bit of comfort” in the fact that the latter is now with the actress’ pets that have also crossed the rainbow bridge.

“I cannot even begin to express how painful it is to lose my Patches. Just as my heart had started to heal, it shatters yet again,” Abella wrote. “I’m going to miss your big, bright, naughty smile, my Patchy. Abu.”

Abellana was comforted by fans and fellow celebrities who were also saddened by Patches’ death.
