Foundation celebrates Evelio’s advocacy
A celebration of community, advocacy and service was held recently by the Evelio B. Javier Foundation at LRI Design Plaza. Inspired by the late Gov. Evelio Javier, whose life was cut short on Feb. 11, 1986, the foundation celebrated its 25th year as it continues to advocate for good governance.
Accomplishments
Among the foundation’s accomplishments: Espousing decentralization (before the passage of the Local Government Code of 1991); implementing training programs for leaders; harnessing participatory democracy by teaching processes of participation between citizens, media, marginalized sectors and local executives, and strengthening the institution of the League of Municipalities.
Lawyer Luis F. Sison, its chair, opened and closed the ceremonies. Also present were Evelio’s son, Gideon, who thanked the community for its dedication, Sonia Roco, Trixie Sison, Willie Villarama, Ching Montinola, Ramon and Chris Carrion, Tess Baltazar, Tess Abesamis, Agnes Devanadera, Dorothy Tan, Art Tansiongco, Cynthia Lazo, Sonia Mendoza, Flu Garcia, Tom Batalla, Ruby Paurom, and Nena Alcuaz-Reyes.
