MANILA, Philippines—The Mutya ng Pilipinas organization made it two-for-two when it scored a second international title this year from the second queen it sent to compete abroad, Shannon Robinson who was crowned Miss Environment International in India on June 15 (June 16 in Manila).

Just a month after Annie Uson became the first Miss Chinese World winner from the Philippines, Robinson recorded the country’s first victory in the two-year-old Miss Environment International pageant in ceremonies staged at the Fern Residency Turbhe in Mumbai.

Both Uson and Robinson did not earn international assignments when they joined the national pageant, though. Unson finished in the semifinals of the contest’s 50th anniversary edition in 2018, while Robinson was proclaimed 2022 Mutya ng Pilipinas-Luzon, equivalent of a first runner-up.

But when the national organization acquired the licenses for the two international competitions earlier this year, it appointed the two ladies to represent the Philippines abroad. Another franchise it secured this 2023 was for the Miss Intercontinental pageant, where 2022 Mutya ng Pilipinas Iona Gibbs is set to compete.

In the just concluded Miss Environment International pageant, Robinson also received the Miss Active award, the equivalent of the Miss Congeniality title, and finished second in the Miss High Fashion Model selection.

Flora Puira from Cameroon was proclaimed Miss Flora and Fauna, while fellow African queen Pauline Marare from Zimbabwe was crowned Miss Ecosystem. Romane Alvies from Sri Lanka was hailed as Miss Aqua.

Savannah Robyn from the United Kingdom received the Miss Paradigm City title, while Juliana Aristazabal from Colombia rounded up the winners’ circle as Ambassador of the Environment.

Mutya ng Pilipinas President Cory Quirino told members of the media at Robinson’s sendoff party last month that the organization was still looking for more international pageants where it can send its two other runners-up, Mutya ng Pilipinas-Visayas Megan Campbell and Mutya ng Pilipinas-Mindanao Marcelyn Bautista.  /ra
