“I never say no to exciting new opportunities,” said GMA 7 heartthrob Alden Richards when we asked him if he’d be willing to do hard action in his upcoming projects. We crossed paths with Alden at the splashy party thrown by Netflix Philippines for the “Extraction” press event that began last Sunday.
To welcome star Chris Hemsworth, director Sam Hargrave and their team to the three-day affair, the streaming giant invited Alden and other Filipino stars and flew in a merry mix of more than 70 press people, influencers and celebrities from all over Asia.
Given how diligently the 31-year-old actor sticks to his fitness regimen, Alden is now more than ready to take on physically demanding roles to further broaden his thespic boundaries and expand his body of work.
“I’ve long looked up to Chris Hemsworth as an actor; that’s why I’m here. So I would be thrilled to meet him,” Alden said to us. “Aside from that, I’d also welcome opportunities to develop projects with Netflix and the other streaming companies, like Prime Video and Disney+.”
No, Alden wasn’t just pulling our leg. He explained, “You know, my superhero series ‘Victor Magtanggol’ was inspired by ‘Thor,’ the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) franchise headlined by Chris Hemsworth and the Norse mythology.”
In the action-drama series, which ran from July to November 2018, Alden played a regular Joe who rises to the occasion when he ends up inheriting the Mjölnir, the thunder god’s formidable hammer.
“Extraction 2” opens on June 16 on Netflix. INQ
