Coco Martin and Julia Montes’ reel-to-real relationship didn’t come as a shock to many outsiders, as they have been close to each other for quite some time. But after years of speculations, the “Batang Quiapo” star publicly confirmed it this month.
Many insiders are aware of Martin and Montes’ relationship from way back; they have also been spotted together on multiple occasions.
But despite keeping their romance private, the actor couldn’t help but express his love for his partner during the screening of “Unbreak My Heart,” saying, “Napakasarap ng pakiramdam namin dahil 12 years na kaming magkasama, pero pareho pa rin tulad ng dati.”
Take a trip down memory lane as we show a complete timeline of CocoJul’s relationship:
2008: Coco and Julia cross paths
Coco and Julia first met on the set of the 2008 show “Ligaw na Bulaklak,” in which the former starred as kontrabida Ronel Alegro.
Meanwhile, Julia briefly appeared in the teleserye as the teenage Jennifer, whose grown-up version was played by Ara Mina. It can be noted that the show aired in the same year that the former graduated from “Goin’ Bulilit” with batchmate John Manalo.
March 2011: Coco and Julia get linked
Speculations of Coco “wooing” Julia came about via ABS-CBN News in March 2011, which the actor vehemently denied during an interview on the now-defunct “Showbiz News Ngayon.”
“Hindi, hindi, hindi. Si Julia magkakilala na kami dati pa. Nakakaisang soap opera pa lang ako sa ABS-CBN. Sa ibang channel pa lang nagkakatrabaho na kami,” he was quoted as saying.
January 2012: ‘Walang Hanggan’ goes on air
Coco and Julia were launched as the CocoJul love team in the melodrama “Walang Hanggan,” which is based on the 1991 film “Hihintayin Kita sa Langit” and the 1847 novel “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Brontë.
Pre-production for the drama kicked off in 2011; it premiered months later when Julia was 16 years old and Coco was 30 years old.
The actors took on the roles of best friends-turned-lovers Daniel and Katerina, until their passionate love affair met a tragic fate. Their characters were eventually reunited in the afterlife.
February 2013: ‘A Moment in Time’ hits theaters
The CocoJul loveteam starred in their first film, “A Moment in Time,” a follow-up to the success of “Walang Hanggan.”

March 2013: Coco becomes Julia’s debut escort
Coco was tapped by Julia herself to be her escort at her debut, which is akin to the titular debut scene in “Walang Hanggan,” where their characters confessed their feelings for each other.
The invitation came up during the press conference for “A Moment in Time,” where the actress asked her leading man to be her escort. “I’m asking you,” she said while turning to him.
The actress said that she had always wanted to ask the actor although she was afraid that he might turn her down. “I was really going to ask him. I was just concerned that he might turn me down because of his hectic schedule,” she said.
A visibly elated Coco “hoped” that she would ask him. “It would hurt if she asked someone else—ibig sabihin basted! But she asked me; this probably means extra points—we could end up together after all,” he was quoted as saying.
March 2014: Coco and Julia work together in ‘Ikaw Lamang’
Coco and Julia reunited in the period soap opera “Ikaw Lamang,” in which they starred as best friends Samuel and Mona. The teleserye, which also included Kim Chiu, Jake Cuenca, KC Concepcion, Joel Torre, Amy Austria and Christopher de Leon, revolves around different love stories that ended tragically.

Diba parang sa isang magkasintahan, pag nagliligawan kayo, pag nagde-date pa lang kayo, gusto ng lahat magkatuluyan. Pag kayo na, ang daming opinyon hanggang sa magkasira kayo. Bakit ko hahayaan,” he said, explaining why he opted to keep his personal life private.

While it’s noted that the “Batang Quiapo” star’s “magkasama” remark can be open to interpretation, he and Julia were pressed if their relationship had started back in 2011.
