Jake Zyrus is taking a break from social media to focus on his mental health, noting that it is his way of “fighting back” against those who have “tried to break” him.

The singer announced this through a statement on his Instagram page on Tuesday, May 23.

“Hi all! I know I don’t post a lot, but I just wanted to let you guys know that I’ll be taking a break from social media for a few weeks to focus more on my mental health,” he said.

“It’s been a rough ride. A lot of people have tried to break me, so this is me fighting back, by healing,” he continued.

Jake also encouraged those who are experiencing the same to take a much-needed break, and received messages of support from fans and fellow celebrities.

“I know it’s not gonna be easy, but I also know it will help me a lot. If you’re looking for a sign to also take a break because it’s been a lot for you, this is it. Let’s do this together,” he concluded.

Jake came out as a transgender man and officially changed his name from Charice Pempengco to Jake Zyrus in 2017.

He made headlines last March after his mom Raquel compared Charice’s performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” with Morisette Amon’s rendition during David Foster’s show in the Philippines.

Raquel also addressed Foster and said that no one can “give justice” to the Canadian musician’s songs but Charice.  /ra
