SB19’s “Binibining Pilipinas” opening number way back in 2022 has been making rounds on social media after the Miss Universe Philippines(MUPh) 2023 coronation night last Saturday, May 13, as many pageant fans pointed out the P-pop global sensation’s performance was the “standard.”

During the Binibining Pilipinas 2022 coronation, the five-member group made a splash with the song “Win Your Heart” as the opening number, as seen in a video uploaded by @AltStarMagic on Twitter.

The video of SB19’s performance resurfaced on social media following the MUPH coronation program, with some netizens calling out the national pageant organization for its supposed mishandling of the opening number. Twitter user’s @AltStarMagic post has garnered over 1.3 million views, as of this writing.

“What’s up, Araneta! This is Binibining Pilipinas 2022. Are you all excited tonight? Let’s celebrate the beauty of a true Filipina, let’s go!” SB19’s Pablo can be heard as saying in the video as they kicked off their performance.

MUPh’s coronation night, on the other hand, opened with a group of dancers doing a series of interpretative movements while the candidates introduced themselves through a voiceover.

Despite this, many pageant fans took to social media to praise the “Mapa” hitmakers for their performance, with some pointing out that the group’s stage presence was the “best” one yet, as compared with the production number at the MUPh coronation night.

One @MarikitPaalam said, “Sobrang dull ng production jusko kala mo pageant lang sa barangay, may mga dancer na magdodoxology. #MissUniversePhilippines2023. P.S. The Binibining Pilipinas with SB19 as opening prod is the best [I’ve] seen yet.”

Another @aeyelle wrote that SB19’s production number then set the standard for local pageants.

Twitter user @merch_bl2022 found SV Squad’s introduction “lousy,” leaving the audience “underwhelmed,” while @BIENsays said the MUPh coronation’s opening number had no “it factor.”

Meanwhile, @kim_tugas and @Jancjonite hoped that SB19 set the tone on what a pageant’s opening number should look like, and hoped that the P-pop group and singer Sam Concepcion would be invited for next year’s edition of the national tilt.

Twitter user @franconodado noticed that Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi was absent during the opening number.

Makati’s Michelle Dee emerged as winner in Saturday’s coronation night, succeeding Celeste Cortesi. Dee would attempt to refresh the Philippines’ bid as a powerhouse in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant.

Meanwhile, Bohol’s Pauline Amelinckx was named Miss Supranational Philippines 2023, and Baguio’s Krishnah Gravidez was chosen as Miss Charm Philippines 2023 at a separate event right after the coronation.

SB19, consisting of Josh, Pablo, Stell, Ken, and Justin, will release their six-track album “Pagtatag” on June 9. The quintet will also release their single “Gento” on May 19.

The boy group debuted in October 2018 with the ballad “Tilaluha,” and some of their best hits include “Mapa,” “Where You At (WYAT),” and “What?,” among others. EDV
