The Philippines will have another chance to showcase some of its best films when it sends a delegation to the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes, considered one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, to be held in France from May 16 to 27.

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will lead the Philippine delegation which will be bringing before the international stage two Filipino films — “TOPAKK” directed by Richard Somes, and “Her Locket” directed by J.E. Tiglao. In addition, a Filipino project called “RIA,” directed by Arvin Belarmino, has been included in La Fabrique Cinéma 2023 selection.

To further strengthen connections and co-production initiatives between Asia and Europe, four Filipino producers will participate in Spotlight Asia, a newly launched program.

“Two Filipino delegates will also be joining the Cannes Producers Network where film producers around the world can present their projects to potential investors… Best of luck to the Philippine delegation!” FDCP said in a statement.

“Topakk,” which stars Arjo Atayde, Julia Montes, Sid Lucero and JM de Guzman, is an action-packed film that tells the story of an ex-special forces operative turned security guard (Atayde) who suffers from a post-traumatic stress disorder.

Aside from showcasing Filipino films, the FDCP has officially selected 17 film companies as representatives to Marché du Film. These companies will explore potential partnerships with their international counterparts.

To promote Philippine cinema, the FDCP, together with the Singapore Film Commission, will host the Philippine-Singapore Pavilion. Delegates from around the world can join in-depth discussions and be introduced to the thriving Philippine film industry.

The FDCP’s efforts to promote Philippine cinema on the global stage have been recognized in recent years, with several Filipino films winning awards and gaining critical acclaim at international film festivals, while Filipino talents have been known all over the world.

Among the recipients of international awards are actors Dolly de Leon, Soliman Cruz and filmmaker Martika Escobar, who were recently accorded an achievement award by FDCP.

Through its participation in events like Marché du Film, the FDCP hopes to continue to elevate Philippine cinema and foster international collaborations in the film industry.
