Bea Alonzo says she gained weight due to hypothyroidism
Bea Alonzo admitted to having been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, to which she attributed her having gained weight recently.
In her recent vlog which she posted on YouTube, Alonzo was making a comment about the pictures on her Instagram, among which was of herself playing tennis with boyfriend Dominic Roque and his friends.
“Aside from having PCOS, I recently was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. So that’s the reason behind my gaining weight, and I’m trying to address that now by dieting and taking meds for it, and supplements,” she said.
“So wish me luck, sana matapos na sya. So sa mga nagsasabi dyan, bat antaba na ni Bea? Yun po ang reason, pasensya na kayo,” she further said.

However, after playing some rounds of tennis, she realized that she was not physically fit to be able to play the sport, especially after the discovery of her hypothyroidism.
“Nung January, just like every one of you, gumawa ako ng New Year’s resolution. So sabi ko I need to pick up a new hobby… I also gained weight (but) nahirapan akong tumakbo-takbo, lalo na lateral (movement). Sumasakit din ang tuhod ko… But unfortunately, dahil sobrang galing na niya (Roque), hindi nako sumali kasi parang feeling ko I’m holding him down. Hindi talaga ako athletic, so okay lang. Pag medyo di nako busy, I will go back to playing tennis,” she said.
This is not the first time that the actress opened up about her weight issues.
In February 2019, Alonzo admitted to having insecurities about her body, like hating herself for being “fat,” prompting her to do a mental self-check in order to change the way she sees herself.
