Blackpink’s Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa shed their baddie images for a moment as they jammed to the hit songs of TLC and Spice Girls during a segment of James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke.”
The quartet expressed their admiration for fellow girl groups TLC and Spice Girls with the English TV host, as seen in a video uploaded on The Late Late Show with James Corden’s official YouTube channel on Wednesday, April 19.
“Are there any bands that you looked up to for inspiration?” Corden asked Blackpink as they recalled some of their experiences during their trainee days.
“We loved TLC’s music [during our trainee days]. They had vocals, they had raps, and it had a bit of hip-hop,” Jennie said.
The host then played “No Scrubs,” one of the American girl group’s biggest hits, on his car radio as the “Pink Venom” hitmakers sang along at the top of their lungs.
Blackpink also shared that English unit Spice Girls were one of the group’s biggest influences. Lisa even confessed that she enjoyed their music since she was young.
“Like since I was young, I used to, like, listen to the radio a lot and their song came out and I was vibing with them,” Lisa added.
Jennie said she admired how members Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Melanie C, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham had their “own individual characters” despite being in a group.
“We really like how they have their own individual characters. That was something that we were aiming for. They were such an iconic girl group in our history that we grew up listening to,” she added, before they sang along to “Wannabe.”
The K-pop girl group likewise jammed to their hit songs “Pink Venom,” “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” and “How You Like That” with Corden during the segment.
Jisoo also made her bandmates and the English host laugh at the beginning of the video, when she asked if Corden is a “good driver.”
Blackpink has been a trending topic on social media following their strong performance as headliner at the Coachella Music Festival last April 16 (Manila time).
Blackpink was formed by YG Entertainment in August 2016. All of the members have debuted as solo artists as of 2023, and are currently brand ambassadors for various luxury brands.
