Janno Gibbs’ response to ‘showbiz colleague’ who said he gained weight: ‘You look old’
Seasoned singer-songwriter Janno Gibbs did not mince his words as he clapped back at an anonymous “showbiz colleague” who “casually” pointed out that he had supposedly gained weight.
Gibbs took to his personal Instagram page on Monday, April 3 to share an encounter with a “retired showbiz colleague” who said that he “gained weight,” although he did not disclose his identity. In response, he pointed out that the colleague looked old, which was supposedly not taken lightly.
“Bumped into a showbiz colleague from before. Small talk. He then casually said, ‘Tumaba ka ha (gained weight). I let it pass. I asked, ‘What do [you] do now?’ He said, ‘Oh, I’m retired already.’ My reply: ‘Oh, that’s why. You look old,’ to which he got shocked and upset,” he said in the photo.

Article continues after this advertisementNievera expressed how much he “hates” receiving comments about his weight, as he pointed out that it’s a “tactless” observation. “I hate that! I get that all the time and I always ask myself how some people can be so comfortable at being tactless and say such things, but I learned also that through the years and after many ‘scratching my head’ moments at such comments that believe it or not some mean it in a good way,” he said.
The “Fallin’” singer, in response, told Nievera that the “weight gain” comment is not a compliment as the latter observed from his “facial gesture.”
Aguila praised the singer-songwriter on how he handled the remarks.
Meanwhile, one @krmatias said that Gibbs should have responded with “kindness” instead. The musician, however, clapped back with, “Masama ba sinabi ko (Is there something wrong with what I said?)”
On the other hand, many of Gibbs’ followers appeared to be in support of how he handled the comment about his weight gain, with some describing it as a “Pinoy malpractice.”
Instagram user @_iamlovedevera, “That ‘tumaba ka’ has always been a Pinoy malpractice. They’re used to saying that phrase without being sensitive towards the person they are pertaining to because they think it’s normal.. We gotta get rid of that malpractice. So kababayans, [let’s do what] Mr.Janno did!”
Another @ketococojam50 said, “People should learn.. until now people [use those] comments because they think [it’s okay] but actually rude. Good for you, Janno. Just be you. You are the best and the greatest and you are loved and adored.”
Gibbs previously made headlines for his sassy response to a netizen who criticized him for appealing supporters of other politicians to let them “grieve” after the loss of former Vice President Leni Robredo in the May 2022 elections.
The musician is best known for his hit songs “Fallin’,” “Pinakamagandang Lalaki,” and his rendition of “Binibini,” among many others. EDV
