Erik Matti could not help but express excitement as he met again with Vilma Santos for their upcoming film, in which the veteran actress will portray a “fresh and memorable character.”
The acclaimed director gave a glimpse of their meeting alongside producer Dondon Monteverde, through Matti’s Instagram page on Monday, March 13. Matti can be seen seemingly discussing the project, with the Star for All Seasons listening to him.
“I’ve been a fan of Ms. Vilma Santos’ Ishmael Bernal marriage twin bill ‘Relasyon’ and ‘Broken Marriage.’ I also loved her in the dark Maryo J movie ‘Tagos ng Dugo,'” he said in the caption, referring to Santos’ 1980s films. “But beyond her serious performances, her versatility and range was showcased full on in her sweet and endearing performance in Olive Lamasan’s ‘In My Life.'”
“It has been a dream to make a film for The Vilma Santos,” he continued. “Finally, we’ve found something to work on that will, again, show us how great an actress she has always been.”
Matti said they have “lots of time to prepare” for the project and that he is looking forward to their future meetings together.
“Looking forward to creating a fresh and memorable character for such an icon like you, Ate Vi,” he stated. “Happy that we are all excited for this project.”
Santos also shared the same photo through her Instagram page.
As early as now, fans and celebrities have already shown their support for Santos and Matti’s film, as seen in the comments section.
Santos and Matti’s upcoming project was first announced to the public in September last year. No further details on the cast or premiere date have been given as of this writing.
Aside from this film, Santos is also working on a reunion project with veteran actor Christopher de Leon. The actress disclosed that it would be a romantic-drama film, to be shot in Japan and co-directed by De Leon. /ra
