MANILA, Philippines—A new national pageant for Filipino women will be mounted by Lumiere International Pageantry, a Singapore-based organization that also conducts various global competitions in both the “Mrs.” and “Miss” categories.

Organizer Justina Quek shared with the Inquirer the news in an online interview. The national competition will be called the “Mrs. Philippines Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant,” and will crown five Filipino queens who will all compete in her Mrs. Asia Pacific contest in Singapore.

“Due to conflict of interest, my ex-national director will not be moving to the international pageant,” she said, adding that she will fly to Manila this month for the screening of the applicants to the new national pageant.

To help her conduct the screenings, Quek will be joined by 2019 Mrs. Singapore Global Universe Ronalyn Tingcang Tay and 2019 Mrs. Singapore Worldwide first runner-up Mary Ann Carlson.

The Singaporean organizer will also be welcomed to the country by some of the Filipino winners in her international pageants—2019 Mrs. Asia Pacific Global Avon Morales, 2022 Mrs. Asia Pacific Special Queen Ambassador Monalisa Salenga, 2022 Mrs. Worldwide Special Queen Ambassador Sarima Paglas and reigning Mrs. Asia Pacific All Nations Louise Suzanne Alba-Lopez—who will also help with the screening of applicants.

“Mrs. Philippines Asia Pacific Beauty Pageant aims to empower [Filipino] women to improve their self-esteem, confidence, as well as support charity [projects] in the Philippines,” Quek shared.

The contest is open to Filipino citizens who are married, single, divorced or widowed between the ages of 21 and 48. Auditions will be held at the Glass Meeting Room 8 of Okada Manila in Parañaque City on March 18, and applicants are advised to arrive not later than 2 p.m.

Five titles will be awarded in the national pageant—Mrs. Philippines Asia Pacific Global, Mrs. Philippines Asia Pacific All Nations, Mrs. Philippines Asia Pacific Cosmopolitan, Mrs. Philippines Asia Pacific Intercontinental and Mrs. Philippines Asia Pacific Tourism.

Lumiere International Pageantry will shoulder the license fees of all the eventual winners of the Mrs. Philippines Asia Pacific contest for the Mrs. Asia Pacific pageant, Quek said.  /ra
